Do We Already Know The “Hottest 100” Winner?

Spoilers… for a thing that hasn’t happened yet.
Triple J’s Hottest 100, like Australia Day itself, has been mired in controversy for years, from the snubbing of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” in 2015 to the increasing regularity of winners revealed weeks in advance, thanks to clever work by the spoilsports of the internet (and Triple J’s own interns).
This year looks to be no different, with computer science grad Nick Whyte having collected data from Instagram posts to predict the likely list.
And with 65,306 votes counted so far, across 7,753 submissions, he has a decent sample size to draw from.
Now, these methods don’t always get it right. Last year, uni student Ed Pitt had a crack with a similar method, and though he picked the top two—Kendrick Lamar’s “King Kunta” and The Rubens’ “Hoops”—he got the order the wrong way around.
However, Whyte got 2015’s top three exactly correct, order and everything.
Regular listeners can probably already guess what the front-runners for 2016’s contenders will be. However, if you want to see a refined list of 100 that will likely be pretty accurate (getting more and more accurate as it climbs closer to #1, head here.)
Or, if you don’t feel like scrolling that far, find out his predicted #3, #2 and #1 below.
(Remember, if you want to listen to it live on Australia Day—perhaps for the last time ever—you can do so here.)
We’d say Spoiler Warning, but does it even count if the thing hasn’t happened and if this isn’t an actually leaked list?
Nick Whyte’s predictions are…
Seriously, this is your last chance to back out.
3. “Jungle” by Tash Sultana
2. “Never Be Like You” by Flume feat. Kai
1. “Adore” by Amy Shark
So, there you go. What would you like to see take the top spot?
