Despite Being a Queen, Claire Foy From "The Crown" Is Paid Less Than Her Male Co-Star

The Crown has a pay gap problem.

Despite playing the head of the British Monarchy in the Netflix series The Crown, it's been revealed that Claire Foy was not paid as much as her male co-star, Matt Smith.

Two of the show's producers, Suzanne Mackie and Andy Harries, admitted to Variety that Foy was paid less than Smith, who plays Prince Philip, but details of the amount were not released.

The reasoning behind it, according to the producers, was that Smith came straight from playing the titular role in Doctor Who. They explained that this discrepancy would be corrected for future seasons.

"Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen," Mackie insisted.

Foy has received critical acclaim for her depiction of a young Queen Elizabeth, winning two Screen Actors Guild Awards and a Golden Globe.

Mackie also revealed that the third season will see the show heading into more recent times with the introduction of the late Princess Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles.

Foy will be replaced by Olivia Colman in future seasons to account for the time jump.

Until then, let's just hope that Foy gets what she deserves (equal and fair pay) in her future roles like The Girl in the Spider's Web.
