For those whose love of video games was forged in the fiery crucible of Final Fantasy VII, prepare to shed a tear.

Newly released snaps from Square Enix's upcoming Final Fantasy XV reveals the most realistic looking FF entry yet; a far cry from the series' endearingly cubic origins.

Though nostalgics might find it hard to adjust to such photo-realism, Square Unix had no choice but to (literally) up their game.

(Besides, imagine how lovers of Final Fantasy I felt about their precious game evolving from its gorgeous original state.)

As The Huffington Post points out, sales for the series have slipped dramatically since #7 moved ten million units back in 1997.

Final Fantasy XV does not have an official release date yet, but it will be avaialable on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
