Daisy Ridley Tells Insta-Haters She "Will Not Apologise" For Her Looks

On the same day reports emerged Daisy Ridley was being considered for the part of Lara Croft in a new Tomb Raider movie, the Star Wars starlet has had to battle body-shaming on Instagram.

Ridley has posted a short essay (Kim Kardashian style) in response to a meme that was doing the rounds on Instagram, denigrating Ridley for setting “unrealistic expectations… for young girls”.

The Instagram user, having been buried in an avalanche of anger, removed their post, but BBC News shared the snap (along with Ridley’s original, since-deleted response).

In her follow-up, Ridley called for people to “refrain” from sending hate towards the “poor person” who posted the inciting pic. She also said that, “just like Rey”, she’s a “normal girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances”.

“I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life cause what’s happening inside is much more important anyway,” she continued.

According to Deadline, the 23-year-old Ridley is just one of several actresses being considered to take over for Angelina Jolie in a reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, though it’s unlikely any of those other actresses can boast of having the Star Wars franchise under their belt.

Whether Disney will ever give her some spare time to do anything other than beat up Kylo Ren is another question.

  • Good on you girl for standing up for not only yourself but all the other girls who get body shamed in social media! Why do people always have to hide behind social media when they say something nasty, stand up and say it to their face or say nothing at all!!

  • This is a woman that young girls everywhere should be aspiring to be, a women with curves or not she is proving herself to be a great role model, that doesn't need the help of men or the gratification of society to get where she is.
