Crumbl Cookie Announce Official Store in Aus After Fake Sydney Pop-up

The cookie has crumbl-d 🍪

Last week, Crumbl Cookie fans in Sydney were shocked to find out the cookies they were buying from what appeared to be a real Crumbl Cookies pop-up, were in fact days old, flown in on a plane and sold by an unaffiliated group.

Turns out, these cookies were purchased at a store in Hawaii by people unaffiliated with Crumbl, flown into Australia and re-sold for $17.50 a cookie at a pop-up stall in Sydney.

The days-old cookies were sold in the same packaging the official Crumbl store uses in the US, and they used the brand name, making it seem like the stall was legit.

The promotion leading up to the pop-up event on Instagram made it look like this was coming from the real Crumbl Cookies - and could have fooled any of us! However the news of this fraudulent store quickly took over social media across the world.

The founders of Crumbl Cookies have said that they won’t be taking legal action against the unaffiliated group.

However, following this viral, fraud pop-up, the official Crumbl Cookies store revealed they have plans to open stores in Australia via Instagram with their first and only post with the caption “Aussies, we heard you loud and clear. The REAL Crumbl is coming soon👀”

What is Crumbl Cookies?

Crumbl Cookies is a chain cookie store which was founded in Utah in 2017. The franchise began when two cousins tried to bake the perfect chocolate chip recipe.

Years later, every week Crumbl in the US rotate their menu and offer six different flavours and a variety of different cookies and desserts. You'll probably know them from the iconic pink packaging their baked goods come in.

Is Crumbl Cookies coming to Australia?

A spokesperson from the official Crumbl Cookies released a statement saying the company has “been inspired to accelerate plans to provide all dessert-loving Aussies, with a true Crumbl experience.”

While they haven’t announced where they will open their stores, they plan to post updates on their dedicated Instagram account.

If you are worried this is yet another scam, don't worry. One of the Crumbl co-founders Sawyer Hemsley posted on his own TikTok account about Crumbl coming to Australia. So it's confirmed!

Could this have possibly been a PR stunt to test the buying intention of Crumbl Cookies in Australia? Who knows.

Let’s just hope the cookies won’t be $17.50 like the ones at the fake pop-up store 🤭
