Creating an App to Make Healthcare More Accessible | Casey Tumbers – Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Runner-Up, 2021

Casey tells us how he teamed up with a mate to help connect people with quality healthcare.

This article is presented in partnership with Samsung Solve for Tomorrow.

Any service that makes our lives easier is a major win.

When you need to see a doctor, choosing a telehealth appointment is super convenient when you can’t leave the house.

However, we know that the connection we have online with others doesn’t compare to in-person communication.

Mates James Wooden and Casey Tumbers teamed up to create the app HILFE.

The duo pitched HILFE as their entry for 'Samsung Solve for Tomorrow' in 2021 and became runner-ups of the competition, giving them the opportunity to take their app even further.

The Solve for Tomorrow Competition is open to young Aussies aged 14 to 24 interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), who believe they have an innovative idea capable of making a positive impact in their community.

The comp celebrates the positive impact young thinking can have on society. Entries are based on judged on its social relevance, feasibility, creativity, application of STEM and presentation.

James and Casey's changemaking idea came from wanting to better connect patients with their health care professionals over telehealth sessions.

We caught up with Casey to chat about how the idea evolved, what it was like applying for 'Samsung Solve for Tomorrow', the skills he took away from entering the competition, and how the runner-up prizes were able to accelerate his passion to help those needing quality healthcare.
