A Massive Poll Just Found That People in Every Electorate in Australia Want Climate Action

Is it too soon to get excited?

The biggest survey ever conducted about Australian’s opinions on climate change has found that a majority of voters in every electorate across the country believe Scott Morrison’s government needs to be doing more to tackle climate change.

And collectively we all say, “Well duh”.

The survey—commissioned by the Australian Conservation Foundation—polled 15,000 Aussies on a range of different climate change-related topics and the results will leave you shook to say the least.

First up, the most eye-opening stat to come out of the survey (aside from the headline stat above) is that 67 per cent of voters think that the Morrison government needs to pay more attention to expert advice on climate change.

If that wasn’t enough to wake up the politicians who are sleeping on the issue, 71 per cent of voters nationally do not see coal and gas as a part of Australia’s future in the energy field.

If that didn’t put the industry on notice already, 71 per cent of voters do not support the current government constructing new coal or gas power stations.

Basically, most Aussies want green energy and that number will only get bigger as time goes on.

Now, if saving the planet for the good of humanity isn’t going to convince either political party to get serious about climate change, maybe this will: 67 per cent of voters rated climate change as an important issue in determining their vote at the next federal election.

At the very least, if the Coalition wants to get re-elected—or if Labor wants to get in—then they need to get serious about climate action, ‘cos 79 per cent believe taking action now will help nature and wildlife survive extreme weather.

Speaking about the poll, Australian Conservation Foundation CEO Kelly O’Shanassy said that the results are a clear, unified message from the Australian people.

“This poll reveals a groundswell of voters prioritising climate change as a key election issue in response to longer droughts and heatwaves, devastating bushfires and damaging flood,” O’Shanassy said.

“Australia is a diverse nation but united in our desire for climate action.”

It doesn’t get much clearer than that. Australia has spoken. Mic drop.
