Civilian Shot At #BlackLivesMatter Protest In Charlotte

One man has been shot in Charlotte, North Carolina, in the midst of a Black Lives Matter protest.
Update: The man shot during yesterday's protests has been pronounced dead, a local outlet reports. The original story follows below.
Community members were protesting the police shooting of yet another black man in America, Keith Lamont Scott.
According to Reuters, officers dressed in riot gear began firing tear gas and rubber bullets in an attempt to disperse the demonstrators. Blanche Penn, a longtime activist, said, "we are tired of people, especially police, killing our black men," adding, "Charlotte has always been quiet. But now it's time to be loud."
The identity of the man who was shot during the protests has not been released. The city's Twitter account attributed the shooting to "civilian on civilian" confrontation. The victim has been taken to hospital and is currently in critical condition.
Footage of the protests have been released.
The shooting of Keith Scott, which prompted the protests, has made waves on social media. Conflicting stories continue to emerge about what really happened. Police who were involved in the shooting claim the victim refused to drop his handgun, but family members say the man was disabled, unarmed and reading a book in his car.
For now, the situation remains tense in Charlotte as the protests continue to gain momentum.
One of the protesters, Corine Mack, voiced to CNN that the community is unsettled because they are frustrated.
"When will our lives truly matter?" she asked.
"A black father is dead. There are children tonight who will never see their father again.
"We need to change policies. We need to change procedure. We need to hold police accountable. It's a modern-day lynching. Charlotte is not a good place right now; we're in the throes of this problem."
