Charli XCX's Bizarre Video For "Famous"' Is A Nightmare For Nomophobes

Terrified of your phone battery dying? Charli XCX's new music video reveals the horrors that follow.
Comedy weirdo Eric Wareheim, of oddball duo Tim and Eric, directs the clip for "Famous," the latest single from Charli's late 2014 album Sucker
In it, a lookalike of the "Boom Clap" singer cheerfully dances around her room, until the power on her mobile runs out and she's sucked into a parallel dimension where... look, you'll just have to see for yourself, because it really does defy words.
This thing has everything: elderly zombies, pop stars decaying before our very eyes, a woman with nowhere to turn.
A warning here, however: it gets a little gross.
Eric Wareheim has directed a number of jaw-dropping music videos these past few years, including "Wishes" by Beach House and, most memorably, "Bubble Butt" and "Pon De Floor" by Major Lazer.
It makes sense that he'd be recruited for the 2015 YouTube Music Awards, a day-long event in which the website will be taken over by VICE-produced music videos ("Famous" being the first).
Last year, the debut YTMAs were webcast live, with numerous "music videos" performed before an actual audience.
YouTube isn't being quite as ambitious this time around. However, if the clip for "Famous" is anything to go by, expect plenty of audacious videos clamouring for your attention over the next 24 hours.
Still, this one - a mix of Beetlejuice, Mean Girls and Mulholland Drive - will be hard to top.Topics
