All The Emotional Celebrity Reactions to The Roe v Wade Ruling

"A woman should have the right to CHOOSE what she wants to do with her own body. End of story."
You probably would’ve heard by now that last week the United States’ Supreme Court overturned the constitutional right to an abortion.
The reversal of what’s known as Roe v Wade (which was the name of the landmark court case that gave Americans the legal right to access abortion services back in the 1970s) will affect millions of lives and puts reproductive health and human rights in jeopardy.
As a result of the decision, individual states will now own the responsibility to decide if abortion is legal or not. Already more than 20 states are expected to introduce laws to restrict or ban access to abortion.
The day the news broke, and in the days that followed, artists, celebrities and powerful political figures expressed their disappointment in the ruling.
They took to the stage at Glastonbury Festival on the other side of the world, they took to their own concerts scattered across America and they took to social media in its many forms to react to the news.
Billie Eilish
Headlining England's iconic Glastonbury Festival on Friday night, Billie started her set with a few words before singing “Your Power” which she has described previously as an “open letter to people who take advantage – mostly men”.
Olivia Rodrigo
TikTok’s most famous and fearless female brought friend, Lily Allen, up on stage with her at Glastonbury on Saturday.
The pair belted out Allen’s 2009 hit “F*** You” and dedicated it to the five Supreme Court justices who voted in favour of overturning Roe v Wade.
“I'm devastated and terrified that so many women and so many girls are going to die because of this," Olivia said.

Kendrick Lamar
Also at Glastonbury, Kendrick performed "United In Grief"—described by Mashable as "a personal tale of pain that the artist visually and verbally aligned with the grief around Roe v. Wade's reversal". He repeatedly rapped "They judge you, they judged Christ, godspeed for women's rights" before dropping the mic and leaving the stage.
Billie, Olivia and Kendrick weren't the only artists to criticise the decision on stage with Phoebe Bridgers, Megan Thee Stallion, Kasey Musgraves, Years and Years, and Lorde also making powerful calls for abortion rights.
Then there were all the famous faces making their voices heard on social media.
Mariah Carey
Michelle Obama
Charli XCX
Halsey
Bette Midler
They did it. THEY DID IT TO US! #SCOTUS has overturned #RoevWade, enshrined in the Constitution as settled law for over 50 years. How dare they? This #SCOTUS is absolutely tone-deaf to the will and even the actual needs of the American people. #WakeUpAmerica

While the reversal of Roe v Wade does not directly affect Australians, it might make you feel angry or helpless. If you want to improve your education on the matter, there are plenty of articles online like this one to learn more. Or you can make your voice heard at a peaceful protest around the country this weekend.
