Brace Yourselves: One of Sydney's New Ferries Will, Indeed, Be Called Ferry McFerryface

Australia's a little late to the party.

Transport NSW, responsible for Sydney's ferries, has decided to name one of their new ferries "Ferry McFerryface" after holding a competition that asked the public to name their new fleet.

Alongside B-Mac (I'm coining the nickname right here), the other ferries will be named "Fred Hollows", after the Australian ophthalmologist (eyeball doctor) who restored eyesight to thousands; "Victor Chang", who pioneered heart transplantation; as well as "Catherine Hamlin", who founded the world's only clinic exclusively used to treat poor women facing injuries after giving birth. So, yeah, it's slightly controversial that B-Mac is the other name.

The name is inspired by the original Boaty McBoatface from the U.K., a research vessel which was so named by the people in a democratic vote back in April last year. It was later renamed RSS David Attenborough, due to the former being deemed "inappropriate".

In Sweden this year, a new train was named Trainy McTrainface in honour of Boaty McBoatface being undemocratically renamed by the sad sods who were actually running the research trips. Okay, maybe a fair call.

So, naturally, Australia, being so isolated from the rest of the world, wanted to join in on the fun... a whole year-and-a-half later.

But, not everyone was a wet lettuce about it.

But unsurprisingly, an equal amount was aghast at the idea.

Well, Sydney, deal with it because it looks as if Ferry McFerryface might just be Sydney's next big icon, nestled between a bridge and an opera house.
