Social Media Reacts to Security Guard Drawing Eyes On Spenno Artwork

What's the weirdest thing you've done when you were bored?

Talk about a rough first day at work – a 60-year-old security guard is the latest to compromise an expensive piece of art with a scribbled pair of eyes.

He’d been working at the Yeltsin Center art gallery in Russia for merely hours before taking a ballpoint pen to Anna Leporskaya’s Three Figures piece. FYI, it’s worth around one mill.

See his edits below:

According to The BBC, the man has since been fired, and the police have opened up a criminal investigation. All in the name of art.

Fun fact: science says we doodle when we're stressed and it improves our focus. Also, appparently doodling eyes "represent the inner self of the person drawing them." In that case, we hope our dude is ok.

Apparently, he was just bored on his first day of work. We’ve all been there, I guess.

The curator of the exhibition says "his motives are still unknown, but the administration believes it was some kind of a lapse in sanity.”

Twitter is reacting to the whole saga, and it’s pretty spectacular.

Some people reckon he should've joined the googly eye movement instead.

Remember when there was a Googly Eye Gangster on the Loose in Adelaide? Why does this story give us the same vibes…

Some people are getting philosophical.

Some people think it's disrespecful.

Some people are doing their own.

Some people are getting big Mr Bean vibes.

Some people think it looks better now.

Apparently the man didn't apply strong pressure with the pen, but the restoration is still estimated to cost around three grand. The BBC also reports the security guard could face a fine and up to three years in prison for the offence.

If there's anything we can learn from this, it's probs best not to scribble on expensive art, hey. And that googly eyes would've defs been cheaper.
