Billie Eilish Won Big at the Grammys, But She Wasn’t Sure Why

She mouthed "Please don’t be me" before winning.
It was quite the weekend for Billie Eilish, who managed to take out the top spot in triple j’s Hottest 100 with "bad guy", and won all four major categories at the 2020 Grammy Awards.
The American singer was the first female solo artist in history to win the Hottest 100, with nearly a third of all votes for the song coming from fans aged 18 – 24.
That is undoubtedly a massive achievement, especially for someone so young. However, when triple j asked Billie what she’d be doing to celebrate, her reaction was a tad underwhelming. "I have doughnuts in the fridge, I might go eat them," she told the hosts.
"I’m just trying to relax before the Grammys."
Of course, it made sense that Billie would want to preserve her energy for the award show. In fact, it’s lucky she did, considering she picked up five of the six awards she was nominated for.
The 18-year-old took home the night’s four biggest prizes, including Best New Artist, Album of the Year for When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, and Record and Song of the Year for "bad guy". She also picked up the gong for Best Pop Vocal Album.
These wins make her the youngest ever solo performer to win Album of the Year, and the first woman and second person ever to win four major awards in the same year.
So, you’d think she’d be absolutely ecstatic. But instead, Billie appeared to be genuinely confused by her immense success.
Before she was announced the winner of Album of the Year, the camera focused on the singer mouthing, "Please don’t be me. Please". When her name was read out, Billie threw her arms in the air and shouted "No!".
“Please don’t be me. Please.”

Beating out artists including Lana Del Rey, Ariana Grande, Bon Iver, Lil Nas X, H.E.R and Lizzo, the performer accepted the award with refreshing humility. "Can I just say Ariana [Grande] deserves this?" Billie said.
"We stand up here confused and grateful," her brother/producer Finneas O'Connell added.
Other big winners on the night included Lizzo, who won Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance and Best Urban Contemporary Album, and Lil Nas X, who scored victories for Best Music Video and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Additionally, Alicia Keys and Lizzo lead heartfelt tributes to NBA player Kobe Bryant. The show took place at Staples Center, where Bryant played his entire career with the LA Lakers.
Hopefully Billie still has some leftover doughnuts to continue her well-deserved celebrations.
