BENEE’s New Track Is Scientifically Designed to Calm Anxiety

Lay down and relax, cause this banger is here to chill you out.

Everyone’s got their chillax song, but BENEE’s new track might just take the cake as the best one yet.

The New Zealand alt-pop artist’s latest track “BAGELS” was specifically designed to reduce feelings of anxiety and calm brain activity.

She worked on the new track with neuroscientists from the Auckland University of Technology to produce a song to help people relax and fight back against anxiousness.

BENEE, a longtime advocate for mental health, also announced that all income generated from the track will go to Youthline, a New Zealand mental health charity.

The track uses musical elements that have been tested and proved to lower levels of ‘state anxiety’, which is a short-term anxiety people experience in stressful situations.

It also lowers brain activity in areas often associated with emotional regulation and the fight-or-flight response.

The song itself is inspired by one of BENEE’s favourite relaxing pastimes.

“We all need to find what helps us,” she said.

“One way I find calm is swimming at the beach and having a bagel – I’ve made a nod to this in the song, and obviously its title.”

She said she’s excited to work with Youthline and help in creating music that improves mental health for its listeners.

“I’ve huge respect for Youthline’s work so it’s been awesome to partner on this track, to show young people that it’s ok to talk about mental health, and to provide them with another tool to try when stressed.”
