Top Tips for New “Helldivers 2” Players

Prep for your first mission to protect Super Earth 💪

Helldivers 2 is proving to be one of 2024’s biggest games right now, despite it only being released early February.

At the time of writing, the third-person shooter is currently #1 on Steam’s Top Seller’s chart in Australia and the United States, and #3 globally.

You play as the “Galaxy’s Last Line of Offence”. The narrative of the game deserves a whole article itself, but TLDR - your job is to protect Super Earth.

As Helldivers, you and your four-person squad use a bunch of different weapons and devices to take down enemies, which (right now) include a bunch of alien bugs and Automatons.

Whether you're keen to jump in on PlayStation 5 or PC, we’ve compiled some of our best beginner tips to get you ready for the Helldivers life.

There’s no “I” in team.

Teamwork is crucial in Helldivers, so don’t try and be a hero - group up and stick with your squad.

Bug breaches require all hands on deck, and if you’ve found yourself running things solo on the opposite side of the map… trust us when we say no one will be impressed.

Staying together means it’ll be easier reinforcing your mates back onto the field, and select missions that require comms will be completed a lot quicker.

Friendly fire is on. WE REPEAT. FRIENDLY FIRE IS ON.

Listen, accidents happen.

Sometimes it’s not an accident… and it’s a little funny.

Just don’t be that guy and sabotage the run. Call out to your team before throwing out that 500kg bomb, or check where your team mates are before placing a turret down.

Major orders are your main objectives, so make sure you prioritise them!

Oh, and participating in a major order grants you wicked rewards so at least do it for the loot.

This might go without saying, but it’s worth having your mates try different parts of a certain type of mission.

When starting out, make sure you get familiar with everything from calling down specific Stratagems to aligning tower signals.
