Barry Humphries Goes In On Waleed Aly Again; Calls Gold Logie Win “Very Depressing”

It was the feud nobody was ready to deal with: Dame Edna v The Entire Panel of The Project. I mean, just.... huh?

Last month, Barry Humphries’ iconic alter ego visited Channel Ten’s flagship show to, ostensibly, spruik a new PJ line, but instead roasted Carrie Bickmore, Fitzy and Peter Helliar, as is Dame Edna’s way.

But a few barbs directed at newly-crowned Gold Logie winner Waleed Aly rankled viewers, such as when Edna questioned the Muslim-Australian Aly on whether or not he even “believed” in making bed fun. (He was also called an “old pinko” for his left-leaning views.)

The social media consensus was damning:

So, it’s both no surprise and a little upsetting to hear that even when out of costume, Humphries is seemingly no fan of Waleed.

The Australian had the pleasure of breaking the news to Barry that Waleed had taken the Logies’ top prize over the weekend, to which he replied, “that’s very depressing.”

There’s no follow-up or additional information from The Australian, or even a suggestion that it was meant in jest. It indicates that Dame Edna’s feelings towards Aly are probably not so far from Humphries’ own.

So, the feud rages on. Weird year.
