Back to School With Kumi Taguchi

This just in: It's ABC News 24's Kumi Taguchi!
This post is presented in partnership with Monash Business School.
Student Edge's webseries Back to School With invites Australia's most interesting and successful people to share stories from their school days. In each ep, they let us know how they landed their dream careers, as well as how they faced all those inevitable obstacles of teenagerdom along the way.
Over six seasons, we've interviewed Jimmy Barnes, Amy Shark, Julie Bishop, Saroo Brierley, Samantha Jade, Dr. Karl, Daniel Ricciardo, Rachel Perkins, Ita Buttrose, Tom Ballard, Layne Beachley, John Marsden and many, many other fascinating peeps.
But a new term brings a new season and even more incredible Aussie stories.
In the third episode of Season Seven, we chat with ABC News 24's Kumi Taguchi. She told us how she grew up eating Japanese food and riding horses in Australia, as well as how she walked away from a potential career as a violinist to become a journalist.
"Around year 10, I remember thinking, 'I can't find anyone to take to my formal.' And I remember feeling like, all the girls who look different to me, who were like blond haired and blue eyed, they all seemed to have really great boyfriends to take them to the formal, and I was kind of sitting there on my own, going, 'Oh God, who do I take?' ... These were the sort of things [where I was] like, 'Yeah, I'm definitely different.'"
Check out our chat.
Stay tuned: We'll be dropping new episodes each Tuesday. Join us as we venture back in time with another Aussie legend every week!
