Back to School With Anne Carey

Meet the woman who helped fight Ebola in Sierra Leone.
This post is presented in partnership with Monash Business School.
Student Edge's webseries Back to School With invites Australia's most interesting and successful people to share stories from their school days. In each ep, they let us know how they landed their dream careers, as well as how they faced all those inevitable obstacles of teenagerdom along the way.
Over six seasons, we've interviewed Jimmy Barnes, Amy Shark, Julie Bishop, Saroo Brierley, Samantha Jade, Dr. Karl, Daniel Ricciardo, Rachel Perkins, Ita Buttrose, Tom Ballard, Layne Beachley, John Marsden and many, many other fascinating peeps.
But a new term brings a new season and even more incredible Aussie stories.
In the ninth and final episode of Season Seven, we chat with 2016 WA Australian of the Year Anne Carey. She told us how she initially left school at 14, eventually trained to become a nurse and then faced workplace bullying after decades in the profession, before ultimately deciding to help fight Ebola in Sierra Leone (despite thinking she wouldn't come home alive).
"I think the important thing for me, anyway, wasn't that I wasn't getting back; it was to go and help people who were suffering, because there were so many, wasn't there?"
Check out our chat.
That's a wrap on Season Seven! Thanks for watching!
