Back to School With Amy Shark

You'll "adore" this one.
This post is presented in partnership with Bankwest.
Our webseries Back to School With invites Australia's most interesting and successful people to share stories from their school days. In each ep, they let us know how they landed their dream careers, as well as how they faced all those inevitable obstacles of teenagerdom along the way.
Over five seasons, we've interviewed Jimmy Barnes, Julie Bishop, Samantha Jade, Dr. Karl, Daniel Ricciardo, Ita Buttrose, Tom Ballard, Layne Beachley, John Marsden and many, many other fascinating peeps.
But a new year brings a new season... and even more incredible Aussie stories.
In the seventh episode of Season Six, we chat with singer-songwriter Amy Shark (behind the Hottest 100 and ARIA hit "Adore"). Amy told us about her tumultuous teenage years (which included some heartbreak and a "goth" stage) as well as how she came to be a full-time musician after initially accepting it wasn't a likely career option.
"I was in a couple of bands but I never used to sing at school. Because when I was at school, if you didn't sound like Mariah Carey, you wouldn't sing. It's like, 'Oh you're not gifted. You weren't given a voice."
Check out our chat.
You can pre-order Amy's new EP here. Also, check out her music video for new single "Weekends".
Stay tuned: We'll be dropping new episodes each Tuesday. Join us as we venture back in time with another Aussie legend every week!
In the meantime, catch up with previous seasons:
