Qantas is buying a fleet of 12 Airbus A350-1000s wide-body aircraft to facilitate the journeys, and rest assured you’ll be travelling in style.

CEO Alan Joyce said in a statement “the cabin is being specifically designed for maximum comfort in all classes for long-haul flying.” Bye-bye pins-and-needles.

As an added win, the new planes are 25 per cent more fuel efficient that previous-generation aircraft, and are set to carry a total of 238 passengers across four classes (first, business, premium economy and economy). Plus, there’s a “wellbeing zone” in the centre?

It’s clear Aussies have always yearned for long-distance travel, with the “Kangaroo route” between Australia and the UK being one of Qantas’ busiest international operations before COVID-19 happened. And Alan Joyce has touted Project Sunrise as “the last frontier and the final fix for the tyranny of distance.”

Although international travel is recovering slowly since borders have opened, bookings for destinations like London, Los Angeles, South Africa and Bali are all above pre-coronavirus levels.
