Aussie Researchers May Have Just Discovered an Unlimited Battery

Researchers at a Melbourne university have discovered a more efficient way to harness solar power.

The project, headed by researchers at RMIT University in Melbourne, has created an electrode that has the potential to store a whole lot more energy from the sun than previously possible.

This is a big deal because it’s very difficult to store solar energy which means that it’s quite an unstable mode of electricity.

So, what about the cool unlimited battery thing we mentioned earlier?

Basically, the new creation mixes the ability of batteries to store power and the feature of supercapacitors to discharge lots of power, lead researcher, Professor Min Gu described to The Huffington Post.

Lead author, PhD researcher Litty Thekkekara, explained how this new creation had a wealth of real-world applications.

“Flexible thin film solar could be used almost anywhere you can imagine, from building windows to car panels, smart phones to smart watches,” Thekkekara said.

The best part, however, was that Thekkekara also said that we would no longer need charging stations for phones because they would just recharge with the sun.

The technology is still in its infancy so it might be quite a few more years before you get to dump the charger.

What a time to be alive.
