Apple Is Making A “Carpool Karaoke” Show, But James Corden Won’t Host It

Are there even any celebs left to play with?

Apple Music has snapped up the rights for James Corden’s “Carpool Karaoke” spin-off show, based on the viral segment from his Late Late Show on CBS.

According to Deadline, the first season will consist of 16 episodes, each featuring a different musician being forced to sing along to pop standards (while also shoe-horning in their latest single, even if it is so new literally nobody knows the lyrics to it yet).

Here’s the thing: Though Corden is an executive producer of the new series, he won’t actually host it.

Rather, Apple Music will bring on a new MC/ driver to fill Corden’s considerable shoes.

Does this mean Corden will have to stop producing the segment on his own show? Have we seen the last of him chauffeuring singing celebs?

It certainly makes sense that CBS would try to monetise the segment, which, in just a year, has become the biggest ‘late night’ segment on YouTube and even earned an Emmy nomination.

However, are they willing to cannibalise their burgeoning Late Late Show’s most iconic segment?

Thankfully, we are not placed in the ivory towers of CBS and Apple, and thus, not relied upon to make these high-stakes decisions.

All we can do is enjoy what we’ve been gifted so far and offer suggestions for Corden’s replacement. Is Adele busy?
