Anonymous Declares War On ISIS; Claims Responsibility For Taking Down 5,500 Twitter Accounts

The faceless Internet activists who collectively go by “Anonymous” are waging war against ISIS.
According to The Independent, Anonymous kicked off “Operation Isis” – also going by the hashtags #opISIS and #opParis– by reporting Twitter accounts associated with the group. They have taken responsibility for 5,500 accounts being taken offline.
They’re also aiming to bring down websites linked to ISIS by overloading their servers.
Prior to the Twitter takedown, Anonymous released a video suggesting their retaliation to Friday’s attacks on Paris would be the “biggest operation ever” faced by ISIS.
“The French people are stronger than you and will come out of this atrocity even stronger,” a voice from the video, speaking in French, remarked.
The Independent has also seen a post planned by Anonymous that includes the physical address of a person they’re claiming is an ISIS recruiter in Europe.
There is some concern that Anonymous might interfere with ongoing operations being conducted by the French government and its allies. Also, Anonymous has made mistakes in the past when it comes to identifying supposed extremists.
Despite this, it doesn’t seem likely Anonymous will stop what they’ve started anytime soon.
More news as it inevitably develops.
