If you’re thinking about attending the number one young university in Australia, a.k.a University of Technology Sydney (UTS), you’ll be glad to know that they’re gearing up for their Open Day on Saturday 26 August.

It’s time to take advantage of the chance to attend info sessions, go on campus tours and ask academics and current students any questions you might have.

We spoke with current UTS students Jay Newman (Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science), Bella Wicks (Bachelor of Forensic Science, Diploma in Languages) and Moira Cruz (Bachelor of Communication, and Bachelor of Creative Intelligence and Innovation) about why they’re glad they went to UTS Open Day.

What did you get out of being on campus for Open Day? 

Moira: “I already had an idea of what course I wanted to do, so asking about the course work at the info booths helped me finalise my choice. I thought I preferred Law, but when the content for Comms (Social and Political Science) was explained, I realised that course was actually better for me. Being on campus was exciting as I live away from the city and never got to explore this area.”

Jay: “Students were there and had the knowledge to provide me with experiences and content they had engaged with during their time at UTS, as well as faculty staff to help affirm these views from a teaching perspective.”

Bella: “UTS Open Day gave me the opportunity to talk to faculty members and helped me to learn about the facilities offered at UTS. Being on campus enabled me to experience campus life and explore the different buildings of each faculty, see the study spaces, library and labs.”

What interesting things did you learn about uni life at UTS outside of the classroom? 

Jay: “I learnt lots about uni life such as the internships they offered, clubs that were appealing to me, and the variety of activities there are to do around campus.”

Bella: “I had the opportunity to tour the Super Lab in Building 7, giving me a taste of what to expect for the first year of my science degree.”

Moira: “I learnt a lot about Exchange/Global Short Program opportunities and found it really simple and easier to do compared to other unis. UTS really highlighted that you don’t need to do international studies to go on exchange, which was a win for me.”

What makes UTS stand out from other unis? 

Jay: “UTS is set apart from other institutions as they have a big focus on industry-based learning and faculty support for all students. Practical experience makes a huge difference to students who study here, as they are able to take more away from their studies.”

Bella: “We are in the city and nearby places such as the ABC building, so internship opportunities are not too far away from campus. The thousands of industry partners UTS has made it an ideal university for internships, including learning from academics currently working in the field.”
