“Being a sworn police officer is the only job you can have in the Australian Federal Police”. Right?
Wrong.
There are heaps of jobs within the Australian Federal Police (AFP) that are tailored to different disciplines and skills.
Altogether, there over 200 different job types within the AFP which aren’t sworn police officers.
Here are just some of the jobs you could have working for the AFP.
Investigative Assistants.

No two days are the same as an Investigative Assistant in the AFP because you could be working in investigation teams all over the country.
Work with police officers and detectives to tackle national and international organised crimes. While some Investigative Assistants do go on to become sworn police officers, some also move into a career in operational support.
Intelligence Officers and Analysts.

As an Intelligence Officer and Analyst you will be working to detect and prevent crime. Think analysing critical information on criminal threats so the AFP can make the right decisions in the field.
If you have a knack for researching and analysing and providing your insights to help support complex investigations, this could be the role for you.
And, it’s also a role both unsworn members and police officers can take on.
Canine Training and Support.

You could actually work in Canine Training and Support – all you need is two or more years experience as a PSO or Police Officer and a love of dogs!
Alannah joined the National Canine Operations Development team. As a dog lover, Alannah really enjoyed working with the dogs professionally every day, caring for them and supporting their needs.
“You arrive every day to dogs who are so happy to see you,” she said.
“We walk them, feed them, clean them, assist with transport and vet appointments. We treat them like athletes, and our work shapes the dogs to do their important roles disrupting the criminal environment.”
Forensic Accountants.

If you’ve studied accounting or finance, the role of Forensic Accountant could suit your qualifications.
You’ll work on financial analysis and reporting, assist in investigations and legal proceedings and even prepare visual aids to support in trial evidence.
Forensic Accountants play a pretty big role in the AFP by supporting criminal investigations with financial aspects and representing the AFP in high-profile investigations.
Cybercrime Analysts.

Working in the online space, Cybercrime Analysts help defend against criminals in the online space. And living in a digital age, this is a pretty integral party of the AFP.
If you are studying ICT or have experience in this discipline, you could work as a Cybercrime Analyst and assist with investigating serious and organised crime against the Australian Government, critical infrastructure and systems and the Australian economy.
