An 80-Year-Old Woman Tried to Carry a Sword Onto a Plane, Accidentally?

An elderly woman was caught unknowingly carrying a sword—disguised as a cane—onto a flight.

Needless to say, security was very surprised.

Mark Howell, a TSA regional spokesperson, said the woman had absolutely no clue the cane was actually a sword. Her son gifted it to her as a present—presumably—also not knowing it was a discreet, dangerous weapon.

Security became suspicious of the cane when it went through the X-ray machine. “It happens a lot actually,” said Howell. Apparently, finding hidden swords aren’t a rarity at all.

“People pick them up at a thrift store and the sword isn’t found until we X-ray it.”
