Yeezys Will Now Be Sold Online Only in Australia, "Thanks" to Coronavirus

Cool?

Well, you know things must be serious right now, because the next batch of Yeezys are gonna be sold online only.

Yes, the highly coveted Adidas shoe from creator and visionary (we’re choosing to ignore the last 12 months) Kanye West has historically only been available to those willing to camp out in front of stores prior to release, or those who were lucky enough to win an online lottery to go and cop their kicks in person.

But with the coronavirus pandemic forcing people indoors, and self-isolation and social distancing being widely recommended, Foot Locker is now advising that the next major pair of Yeezys, the 350 Boost V2 'Cinder', will be available online only.

"In line with recent public health recommendations, this Saturday's YEEZY 350 BOOST V2 'CINDER' release will be ONLINE ONLY," their site reads.

"It will release online at 12:01AM (AEST) 21/03/20. Please note, our stores currently remain open for all regular sales."

Interestingly, just last week, the Yeezy 350 Boost V2 'Desert Sage' went on sale exclusively at the 542 George St store in NSW and QV store in VC. But a lot has happened since then. You can expect the next few Yeezy drops to be online only too.

Though there will no doubt be a mad dash to score these shoes at midnight, it at least gives those outside of NSW and VIC the chance to nab some Yeezys. The very first pair of Yeezy Boosts went on sale in 2015 in New York City only, and over the last five years, they haven't become any more readily available to those outside of the major metropolitan hubs, unless you’re willing to pay exorbitant prices at consignment stores or via online resellers. And with the shoes already retailing for around $AUD350+, resale pricing is often $AUD1,000+.

There are few positives to coronavirus—in fact, there are basically zero—but at least the democratisation of Yeezy availability (if not affordability) is something to appreciate.

BTW, Kanye made it onto our self-isolation playlist, which you can hear, um, here.
