It all started with a spot on ABC's Q&A opposite vehement opponent of Islam, Senator Jacqui Lambie, and ended in Yassmin leaving for London.

Mechanical engineer and media personality, Yassmin Abdel-Magied, has spoken about her experiences to Buzzfeed UK post her Q&A appearance and ANZAC Day debacle.

In yesterday's interview, she explained how she didn't feel welcome in Australia anymore.

"I feel a little bit betrayed by Australia, because it's my country and these are my country people and it's my home, and to sort of fight for your right to exist in your home country—it's exhausting," she said.

She announced she's moving to London as a "rite of passage" and explained that, in Australia, she thinks free speech only really applies to certain people.

"It's funny that... freedom of speech doesn't really apply to the truth," she said.

Earlier this year, she went head-to-head with Senator Jacqui Lambie over the meaning of Sharia Law. She was lambasted after saying that Islam is the most feminist religion in the world, which many of her critics disagreed with.

The following month, she posted seven words on Facebook on ANZAC Day and the deluge of criticism as well as personal attacks and abusive threats only worsened.

While she deleted the post within two hours of posting it, the intensity over the controversy of what she wrote has meant that the following months since ANZAC Day have been "exhausting."

She wrote an article in The Guardian outlining the impact one status update has had on her life.

"I've resorted to moving house, changing my phone number, deleting my social media apps," she wrote in The Guardian.

"It was me and a glowing screen, the dings of messages, tweets, emails sent by strangers reminding me of my place in the world."
