An Open Letter To Taylor Swift

So I've been told to write a letter to you, Taylor Swift.

I honestly don't know where to begin and not just because it's 11pm, but because I've essentially grown up with you. When I was 11, I hated anything mainstream. That was until I heard Love Story for the very first time. I immediately fell in love.

Then not long after that I had both your first two albums and was all aboard the T-Swizzle train. I remember the first time I saw you live, at the age of 12. At the time, I was only allowed to go to concerts with my mum. She spent most of the night yelling at me for screaming. But hey, could she blame me? I was watching one of the most iconic artists of the 21st century perform right before my eyes.

So here I am nearly five years later. I sadly haven't seen you since, but will in about a year's time, at the ripe old age of 18. I feel as if I have grown up with you and that you have taken me on this roller coaster ride that has allowed me to realise how incredible you are as an artist, as a role model and as a human being.

I got annoyed at you for dating Harry Styles, but after listening to 1989, I realised just how much you loved him. That made me realise the power of love. You gave me love through your music. It would be completely hypocritical of me to criticise you for loving. It has made you who you are and it has made some fine music.

You are fearless. You are courageous. You are daring. You know how to be professional and yet you know when to call out the media. You've learnt not to care what others think and I think you've given life lessons that every teenage girl can learn from.

So thank you. Thank you for teaching me to be fearless. Thank you for taking me on a 6 year long journey through your music and your life. I haven't felt this way about you the entire time, but your intelligence and dedication to your work has proven that there really is no one like Taylor Swift. Thank you for giving me music to love, no matter how old I get.
