An Open Letter to Kim Kardashian

An Open Letter to Kim Kardashian

To the woman who is famous for being famous - Kim Kardashian.

There are many mysteries in the world, from the Bermuda triangle, to conspiracy theories surrounding Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 or how the Pyramids of Egypt came about. What puzzles me the most, is how something or someone becomes 'popular' or 'famous'.

One of my favourite quotes is from Albert Einstein: "The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before."

These days, it seems as though the number one reason why people don't follow their dreams is because in order to do so, they must step off the conveyor belt of conformity- and that’s difficult. Why an action, a phrase or even a fashion accessory can be done, said or worn by a celebrity or someone with a high social status can become instantaneously popular and trendy can’t be explained other than the fact that it is promoted by a celebrity. But what is a mystery to me, is how that person who starts the trends can become such a trend themselves!

I do not have a problem with fans such as yours, but everyday people who feel the need to watch, do or wear something just because others do, even if they don't like it. That bothers me.

Britney spears is known all over the world for her singing, Usain Bolt for his running and you, for...?

There must be a star quality (or a hundred) that you have that makes millions of people join the bandwagon to follow you on twitter, watch you on television and even stalk just to get a live photograph of you in the flesh. I enjoy contemplating just what it is that could make someone like me into a celebrity like you.

It is difficult to understand what makes people so invested in an individual, but even more so why others follow due to it being 'socially acceptable'. But for now, I think that the conveyor belt should stop for a while, so that people can get off, to look at the world around them and realise that they have a life too and it can be just as interesting if they take their own path.

What do you think about conformity? And why do people feel the need to follow everyone else? We were all made different for a reason and I'm sure we’re not meant to spend our life trying to be the same. So, I guess we are left with yet, another mystery.
