Will There Be a Second Season of “Euphoria”? Yes (and the Cast Is Ready)

Spoilers for Euphoria’s first season ahead.

Euphoria, the controversial teen drama with the locker room scene heard round the world, wrapped up its first season this week (on HBO in the US, and Foxtel in Australia), climaxing with a wild musical finale performed by star Zendaya.

As far as cliffhangers go, the season finale "And Salt the Earth Behind You" had a few.

Trigger warning: This synopsis discusses rape.

Not only did Rue (Zendaya) relapse, but her relationship with Jules (Hunter Schafer) was left up in the air. Nate (Jacob Elordi) seemed on the edge of turning completely homicidal, threatening Rue to keep her from airing his dad’s dirty laundry. Meanwhile, Maddy (Alexa Demie) watched the video footage of Nate’s dad raping Jules, as Fezco (Angus Cloud) prepared for a shoot-out with Mouse.

(This show is… the most.)

As for Lexi (Maude Apatow), well, she’s probably off doing her own thing, as per usual.

If you missed it, you can play catch-up in Australia via Foxtel Now.

Will there be a Season 2?

In case you didn’t realise, Euphoria is actually based on an Israeli show of the same name, which aired 10 episodes back in 2012. Unfortunately, it was just a one-and-done situation, with only a single season ever produced (with, apparently, an extremely, extremely dark ending). Understandably, some are unsure if the American-produced Euphoria is gonna come back at all, especially considering the fan theory that Rue actually died at the end of S1 (or earlier).

So, here’s the good news: Euphoria is definitely coming back for a second season. It was renewed by HBO halfway through its first season, though there’s no official date on its return (likely mid-2020).

But will Rue be back for S2?

Well, Elordi doesn’t believe Rue’s dead, and Zendaya certainly thinks she’ll return, saying on Instagram ahead of the finale, "Can’t wait to do it all again!"

Her co-stars are also psyched to return, with Barbie Ferreira (who plays Cat) teasing, "Season 2 tho!!!"

Apatow said she similarly "can't wait", while Schafer replied, "a f***ing blessing".
