Artificial Intelligence Isn’t Coming for Your Job but It Will Be Part of Your Job

Here’s everything you need to know.
This post is presented in partnership with Monash University.
As humanity continues to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence (AI), some people fear this could lead to a robot taking their job.
Ngl, I’ve thought that too, and it’s sci-fi films that have probably coloured a lot of our thinking in this area.
In reality, AI is not only being used for social good, but it's also creating many new jobs, and you can take advantage of this rapid growth by studying at Monash Faculty of Information Technology.
Here is everything you need to know about AI and the future of work.

AI is already here; you just don’t notice it.
Like it or not, AI is here and working behind the scenes in your daily life without you noticing (cue The X-Files music).
Every time you use face ID to unlock your phone, you’re using AI that has learned to recognise your face.
How about social media? AI is already at work there too. When you open Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat or Facebook, you are being offered a feed of content that is personalised to your taste.
Even Netflix has AI tech at work. Think about how many times it has recommended shows that you always like. That’s all thanks to AI learning about what genres, actors, and time periods you like.
As you can see, AI is already in your life, and it has been making it easier.

AI is creating more jobs than it takes.
By 2025, 85 million jobs will be replaced by machines with AI. Don’t panic yet though, ‘cos they also reported that 97 million new jobs will be created due to AI (phew!).
That’s a lot of jobs.
As for all those jobs that AI replaces, they’re roles that expose humans to danger. Whether it’s dangerous fumes, extreme temps, falling objects or other hazards, AI can withstand it all without any human life being put in danger.

AI can’t replace humans for good reasons.
For all the good and affordability that AI technology is, it will never replace humans for a few reasons.
Humans are fantastically creative and have the most amazing computer inside: the brain. This allows us to creatively solve problems, make music, be artists, writers, marketers, and inventors. All jobs that AI can’t do well, no matter how much we develop them.
On top of that, AI can’t replicate human connections to build trust (at least not yet). So, though AI could be a nurse, psychologist, or teacher, it’s missing the crucial human touch to be successful.
What’s more, who created AI? Humans! We’ll of course be needed to update and service AI going forward as well as innovate new ways AI can help solve problems for the future.

How can I have a future working with AI?
The future of AI is massive and will have influence in almost every industry you can think of. If you're looking to pursue a more creative, innovative and dynamic future, then study IT at Monash University.
You can pick a course that best suits your interests—like AI—as well as take units in computer science, cybersecurity, data science and so much more.
