Here are some handy ways you can further your career and eventually land the top-paying business job of your dreams.
Gain practical experience.
When it comes to studying, it’s not just about the books. It’s also important to participate in industry projects, internships, workshops and more.
This way, you can show future employers you have real-world experience which you can take into your first role.
Aiko Chen, a recent Bachelor of Business graduate majoring in Finance and Marketing from Monash Business School gained some real-world experience through the Oracle Cloud Skills Initiative, a partnership between Monash and Oracle.
Here she got the chance to access specific technical skills she can use practically in the workplace and gain micro-credentials to add to her resume. And it’s something which Aiko said has paid off by enabling her to stand out from the crowd.
“A recent employer has just told me that the reason they hired me was because they saw…that I had completed a lot of [Oracle] badges,” she said.
“That proves to them that I have the essential skills that they are looking for in a candidate.”
Develop a strong mix of skills.

Working that 9 to 5 is not just about using one set of skills. In a 21st century, digital world you’ll want to showcase a strong mix of skills to nab your dream job.
The curriculum at Monash Business School is all about helping students develop their technical, analytical and soft skills through things like coursework, practical projects and extracurricular activities.
It’s what recent Monash graduate Chua Jun Hao liked about his Bachelor of Business and Commerce degree.
He said keeping up with different technologies through the Oracle Cloud Skills Initiative, was beneficial. “I believe having knowledge about [cloud] processes or fintech in general as early as possible would definitely be a huge benefit, especially for people my age, fresh graduates,” he said.
“It’s easy to see how every company in the world is using Excel, and soon it will be everyone using Oracle.”
Network with industry professionals.

We hate to break it to you but sometimes it’s not what you know, but who you know.
Which is why it’s important to get to know industry professionals through networking opportunities. If the opportunity arises one day, they could be your future employer.
Former Monash Business School student, Georgia Bradica, told us how the time she spent networking at Monash quickly became a transferrable skill as it improved her people management abilities.
“I was involved in the Monash Caulfield student union…I took on the Welfare Officer role as well as the Activities Officer role,” she said.
“I enjoyed planning events, working with students, and it certainly enhanced my people management skills as well as work ethic.”
This really boosted her confidence, helped her ace her group interview at Coles, and now she’s thriving in her dream role.
Take on additional learning.

And if you want to continue to stand out from the crowd, keep learning where you can.
This is a great way to stay on top of industry trends and show that you’re willing to evolve when you need to.
Aiko said the combination of her degree and cloud technology training through Oracle is helping her hone her skills in many ways.
“I am currently in the process of completing a human resource course [to gain more Oracle badges] and I plan to venture into more marketing-related courses [with more badges],” she said.
She also adds that learning cloud skills are becoming incredibly important as business processes are more and more digitalised.
“As a student being able to learn [cloud technology] helps boost our skills in general. Oracle can be found in any aspect of a business – procurement, human resource, marketing, supply chain so it’s important we learn it.”
And the Oracle Cloud Skills Initiative is just one program Monash offers to help students gain real-world skills.

If you think a job in business is for you, Monash Business School could be the perfect place to develop the employability skills you need for success. You’ll be equipped with a robust skillset that is highly valued by employers, setting you on a path to a rewarding career in the business world.
