WikiLeaks Says Ecuador Has Cut Off Julian Assange's Internet

WikiLeaks is convinced that Ecuador has shut down internet access for its founder Julian Assange.

The following statement comes directly from the anti-secrecy organisation, WikiLeaks:

"We can confirm Ecuador cut off Assange's internet access Saturday, 5pm GMT, shortly after publication of [Hillary] Clinton's Goldman Sachs speechs (sic)."

The organisation posted a Tweet in the early hours of the morning, accusing a "state party" of being responsible for shutting down internet access to Assange, who is currently residing inside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.

There's speculation as to why Assange's internet was severed just after WikiLeaks released a batch of emails from the campaign manager of the US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, with some people believing that it's not a mere coincidence. After all, her campaign team had long refused to release transcripts of the paid Goldman Sachs speeches.

No one knows yet what the supposed motivation was for Ecuador in allegedly cutting his Wi-Fi. However, a source within the Ecuadorian government has told the press:

"We don't respond to speculation circulating on Twitter. Ecuador will continue to protect Julian Assange and uphold the political asylum granted to him in 2012.”

Assange is wanted for questioning in Sweden over a sex allegation, which he denies. Assange believes that if he leaves the embassy he will be promptly extradited to the US for questioning over WikiLeaks activities.
