Dissecting Every Scene of the “Wicked: For Good” Trailer so You Don’t Have to

No one mourns the wicked 💚

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for “Wicked” the movie and “Wicked” the stage play.

Good news! The Witch of the West is back.

The extremely anticipated musical-to-feature film Wicked came out in November last year, and fans will have to wait nearly a year-to-the-day for the second movie.

But the wait for Wicked: For Good is nearly over! The movie is coming out on 21 November 2025 and today Universal Pictures have released the trailer for the second movie.

The films were adapted from the OG Broadway musical (based on the 2005 novel by Gregory Maguire), and the movies were split into two films. Which makes sense given the first film was 2 hours and 40 minutes long – almost as long as the entire stage show.

And so you don’t have to, we watched the trailer over and over again, and dissected each scene in anticipation of what’s to come!

Here’s all the Wicked: For Good hints and easter eggs we’ve found so far.

Elphaba’s witchy powers.

Obviously, our hearts broke when Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) part ways at the end of the first movie. But from the trailer we can see that after Elphaba leaves Emerald City, she finds her own space in a lair hidden from sight.

She only begins to practice her magic more and more, using the Grimmerie. And even from the two minute 46 second trailer we can see that she becomes more powerful than she once was in the first film.

Glinda in a wedding dress?

The first time we see Glinda in the trailer she’s wearing a white dress. Later on, we see her walking down the aisle wearing a veil and carrying a bouquet of flowers. We can only assume she’s getting married!

But the real question is – who is she marrying?

If you’ve seen the stage play you know the answer to this question: she marries Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey). However, the movie might divert from the play as in the books she actually marries a nobleman named Sir Chuffrey.

Will she marry Sir Chuffrey? Or will she walk down the aisle to Fiyero? And will Fiyero go through with the wedding?

Glinda and Elphaba’s friendship.

Despite parting ways at the end of the last movie under tense circumstances, we can see that these two still have a lot of loyalty towards each other. The whole trailer is full of both of them still maintaining some semblance of a friendship with each other.

The first scene of the trailer is Glinda acknowledging that Elphaba is hidden somewhere outside and asking her to come inside before the flying monkeys see her. Which is a sign that despite everything, she doesn’t want her friend to be captured by the Wizard.

So we still have hope these two besties will resolve things 🤞 Or maybe these two are the real love story in Wicked: For Good? 👀

Fiyero’s real allegiance.

Fiyero may be the only person other than Glinda who wants the best for Elphaba.

He’s in charge of the squadron tasked with tracking Elphaba down.

But later in the trailer we also see him give Elphaba her broom back and point his gun at the Wizard. And there’s also a moment where him and Elphaba are staring deeply into each other’s eyes. *swoons*

Glinda’s struggle.

At the end of the first movie, Elphaba begs Glinda to come with her to make a difference in Oz. But Glinda stays behind in Oz and watches sadly as Elphaba leaves.

However, from the trailer we can see that this decision wasn’t as black and white as it seems. In fact, Glinda looks quite conflicted about her decision.

It seems that Glinda might not believe everything that the Wizard has been telling her after all?

And who is Dorothy?

Universal Pictures and Director Jon Chu have yet to announce who is playing Dorothy just yet! And we only see Dorothy in two to three scenes in the trailer.

We see a shot of her walking down the yellow brick road and we see her alongside the Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow being tasked with bringing Elphaba’s broom to the Wizard. We are going to have to wait a little longer to find out who is the face of dear old Dorothy.

Plus two new OG songs!

Unlike the first movie, Wicked: For Good will feature two new original songs that are not in the Broadway/stage play!

Chu told Vanity Fair that one is a song for Elphaba and one is for Glinda.

We still get chills every time we hear Cynthia Erivo sing Defying Gravity so we’ll probably cry when we hear these two new songs.

Unfortunately, we still have just under six months to wait as Wicked: For Good is only in cinemas 21 November 2025.
