#LoveWins: Watch The White House Light Up In Rainbow Colours In Celebration Of Marriage Equality

The White House was anything but over the weekend, lighting up with the colours of the rainbow flag following the historic ruling on same-sex marriages by the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS).

Watch the video above to see night fall on the newly-proud 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, following one of the most momentous civil rights decisions in the nation's history.

On Friday, the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for individual states to block the marriage of same-sex couples, leading to the nationwide legalisation of gay marriage.

Previously, only 37 U.S. states allowed same-sex couples to wed.

President Barack Obama described SCOTUS' decision as being "a victory for America."

"This decision affirms what millions of Americans already believe in their hearts: when all Americans are treated as equal, we are all more free."

Celebrations rang out not only across America, where many couples headed to their local courthouse to pick up their long-awaited marriage licences, but worldwide.

Facebook feeds similarly lit up with the colours of the rainbow flag, courtesy of a 'Celebrate Pride' feature that altered profile pictures.

The U.S now joins Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, France, French Guiana, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Uruguay and Wales in marriage equality.
