Where Can I Watch the Original "Pet Sematary" In Australia (Before the Remake Arrives)?

Because you’re in the mood to freak out.

Stephen King is no stranger to seeing his novels and short stories adapted into movies and TV shows, but after the ginormous success of 2017’s It, he’s gonna see a new glut roll-out over the next few years.

And so are we.

The next one is Pet Sematary, based on his 1983 novel of the same, intentionally misspelled name. The trailer has dropped ahead of its planned 4 April 2019 theatrical release in Australia, and it’s definitely leaning hard on the kids-in-peril factor that helped It gross more than $700 million at the box office. Check it out.

Don’t be fooled. Pet Sematary has, umm, a lot of other stuff going on, beyond kids being precocious in the woods. If you haven’t read the book and can’t wait until the film hits cinemas in April of 2019 to find out what’s up, we have good news: there is another way.

See, Pet Sematary was already made into a flick back in 1989, and it’s available to watch (*checks watch*) literally right now. (It even has a cameo from King as a Minister, if that seals the deal.)

Enjoy this especially unsettling VHS-ripped trailer.

In Australia, you can rent or buy the original Pet Sematary on Apple, YouTube, PlayStation, Google Play and Microsoft Store.

Unfortunately, it’s not available on any local streaming services, but that may change as we get closer to Halloween (and certainly as April 2019 approaches).

If you’re looking for something Stephen King-y to stream right away, you can (as of this writing) enjoy Misery and Carrie on Stan, and It, 1922, Gerald’s Game, The Shining, Dolores Claiborne and the TV adaptation of The Mist on Netflix.
