When Will Amazon's "The Lord of the Rings" Series Be Released in Australia?

Here's everything you need to know.
It’s been seven years since we’ve seen Middle-Earth on our screens with The Hobbit but finally Amazon have confirmed the release date of the new The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) TV series, alongside the first image of the show.
The new series—which is being filmed in the real life Middle-Earth, New Zealand—has cost Amazon $US465 million, making it the most expensive show ever produced.
Here's everything we know about The Lord of the Rings series so far.

When will it be released in Australia?
Initially, Amazon Studio chief Jennifer Salke said the series would air in 2021, but ongoing COVID-19 outbreaks have significantly delayed filming on-set.
Now that filming has wrapped, Amazon Studios have confirmed that the LOTR series will air on Amazon Prime worldwide on Friday 2 September 2022.
Yeah, we know you’re bummed it’s more than a year late, but with all that time you know it’s gonna be freakin’ epic.

Who is starring in the show?
The series has a massive ensemble cast featuring actors and actresses from all over the world. There’s not enough time in the world to list all of them so we’ll just highlight the standouts.
Australian actress Markella Kavenagh (Picnic at Hanging Rock) has been cast as the character Tyra, while Swedish actress Morfydd Clark has been bestowed the honour of playing Galadriel who was portrayed by Cate Blanchett in the films.
A couple of Game of Thrones alumni made the cut too with Benjen Stark actor Joseph Mawle and young Eddard Stark actor Robert Aramayo being cast in unspecified roles.
Homeland’s Nazanin Boniadi, Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) and Peter Mullan (Ozark) will also star in the series.
What will the series be about?
Forget the plotline of LOTR and The Hobbit film series ‘cos Amazon’s series is set thousands of years before their events.
Taking place in the Second Age of Middle-Earth’s history, viewers will be taken back to a time where “great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness,” according to the official LOTR description.
“From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Numenor… these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”
Pump it to my veins!
Are there any clues in the image released?
I’m about to go full nerd here so feel free to tap out if you want. You’ve been warned.
The first image released is of a person in white robes overlooking an impressive kingdom. If you look closely, where it seems the sun is there are actually two trees instead.
These trees are the sources of light for the kingdom of Valinor, home to the angelic and immortal Valar (demi-gods). I won’t go into full detail, but if you wanna get well-versed on this before the series comes out, read The Silmarilion and everything will be explained.

Amazon's The Lord of the Rings premieres Friday 2 September 2022 on Amazon Prime.
