What National Sorry Day Means To Me

We asked members to reflect on what National Sorry Day means to them. Here was our favourite creative response.
We came from a land
Foreign and patriotic
To an island so grand
A land so exotic
You welcomed our convicts
Well received was our culture
Quickly arose all the conflicts
Like amphibian and vulture
You were the clear victims
To the birth of our nation
Opinion turned to dictum
Coexistence to assimilation
We made our rights paramount
From the moment you opened the door
We forgot to account
For those here before
Some 200 years later
Our PM gave a speech
His words aimed to cater
To the culture we impeached
In modern day society
Some rights still go ignored
Your land entitlement is piety
Akiba, Mabo and Ward
We put forth our remorse
Our dismay and our worry
And while it's not much recourse
As Australians, we're Sorry
