Sweet Freedom: Here's What I'm Most Looking Forward To Doing After Exams

We asked our members what they’re most looking forward to doing after exams. Here’s our favourite answer.

Papers shuffling. Pens furiously dashing. The clock impatiently ticking. That ever-present course of adrenaline. The ceaseless onslaught of sweat dribbling from each pore of my body. Remembering and remembering the endless amount of information learnt, trying to sort out and create coherent answers.

I’m eager to dispose of these torturous exam rituals that plague the majority of school students across the globe.

Most students’ post-exam plans would be to just relax and to transition back into a normal routine.

Not me. Rather, the end of exams would mean the beginning of (as Donna and Tom from Parks and Recreation would say) “treat yo’ self” time.

First and foremost, I would - without a doubt - revel in the euphoric sensation of tearing the ever-mocking exam notifications off my walls and noticeboards. To have those removed, in a sense, would be a reminder that these exams are in fact temporary in the grand scheme of things, and to have them gone would be the first and the biggest step forward in terms of learning to recuperate and focus back on myself.

Afterwards, as a member of the Reliant on Caffeine Association, I would prioritise getting some sleep. Lots and lots of sleep. To reprogram my body to its essential sleeping pattern and be able to work and function without the reliance on caffeine is incredibly important for me, as I have always suffered from some sort of sleep deprivation. Allowing myself to commit to recovery will do wonders.

Lastly, one of the most significant things to look forward to after exams is simply having those extra moments for personal interests. Friends, family and hobbies have had to be compromised in order to make room for the studies and occupation of exams. When exams are done and dusted, those three things would be highest in my priority list.

To be able to regain the social routine of going out, unwinding with my closest friends and recovering lost family time would be incredible. Especially as my friends and family are those most dearest to me, catching up would be a primary matter.

As well as this, my hobbies of netball, Netflix and reading would no longer be on the backburner. From the fun and spirited nature of sports to the whimsical worlds of fictional scenarios, they would bring me back to earth from the high intensity of exams and allow me to be transported into the arms of Hogwarts and Stars Hollow.

With these all on the horizon, getting through the exams may be easier after all.
