Watch Marvel’s Tribute to Chadwick Boseman and Then Cry Forever

"You will always be our king."

It’s still hard to believe that Chadwick Boseman, the star of Black Panther, has died, having succumbed at age 43 to cancer.

In the week since his death, we have learnt that Boseman not only kept his illness secret from the public, but also from many of his colleagues, with Marvel head Kevin Feige only finding out about his situation via email just one hour prior to Boseman’s death.

Even Black Panther director Ryan Coogler wrote in a tribute that he’d spent the last year "preparing, imagining and writing words for him to say, that we weren’t destined to see" in Black Panther 2, which was meant to commence shooting in March for a scheduled release in 2022.

Reports indicate Boseman felt, up until a week prior to his passing, that he would triumph in his private battle with colon cancer.

Eventually, Marvel and Disney will have to figure out what to do with their flagship franchise, with THR indicating a passing of the torch to T’Challa’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) more likely for Black Panther 2 than a sure-to-be-unpopular recasting of T’Challa himself.

But for now, all who knew Boseman are in mourning, as are his many fans. To honour his memory, Marvel has put together a short video tribute, comprised mostly of older interviews with his co-stars conducted prior to his death, culminating in the statement, "You will always be our king."
