Katy Perry encourages Americans to vote, one article of clothing at a time.

You probably already know this, but folks in the US aren't actually legally obliged to vote, unlike in Australia, where you'll get hit with a hefty fine if you don't show up to the polling booths. Democracy works in strange and mysterious ways.

In an attempt to get more Americans on board with the whole "voting-for-their-president" thing, Katy Perry has stripped off in a hilarious clip by Funny or Die and Rock the Vote.

"November 8th is Election Day and I've got some great news," she says.

"This year, you can look like s*** when you vote."

Clickbait? Maybe.

Effective? Probably.

She isn't the first celebrity to come out in full support of voting this year.
