Waleed Aly Says Donald Trump "Is No Laughing Matter"

#TrumpIsNoLaughingMatter is the newest social media campaign started by journalist Waleed Aly.

The co-host of Channel 10's The Project has pledged to no longer make jokes about US presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Aly argues that the media needs to accept some responsibility for turning Trump into a joke. "We can't continue to be so narrow in our thinking, our reporting, our analysis," he says.

"So we're making the commitment, between now and the election, not to joke about Trump. Because sexism is no laughing matter. Racism is no laughing matter. Inciting violence is no laughing matter. Sexual assault is no laughing matter. And for those reasons and sadly more, Donald Trump is no laughing matter."

The campaign has already started making the rounds on Twitter.

Aly's call-out comes in response to Saturday's release of footage documenting Trump gloating about an alleged history of committing sexual assault.

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, who identifies as a Trump supporter, appeared on Channel 7's Sunrise program to comment on the vulgar video.

"It was said not on camera. It was said behind the scenes and it was a tape recording. Let's be honest about it, there are a lot of men out there that say horrific things," Hanson responded.

Aly took the opportunity to call out Hanson as well, reminding us that even though men like him exist, such a man should not become the most powerful person on the planet.
