Wake Up, Sheeple: Science Just Proved Sheep Can Recognise Celebrity Faces

A University of Cambridge study has ruined your next plate of lamb chops, concluding sheep can recognise individual human faces.

As the eerily-silent video below demonstrates, sheep were trained to recognise celebrity faces in laboratory conditions.

Later, they were presented with pairs of faces: one famous, one not-so-famous. They would be rewarded with food every time they chose the correct celebrity face.

The celebs included Emma Watson, Barack Obama and Jake Gyllenhaal.

The researchers believe their studies “show evidence that neural networks for face perception activated in sheep are similar to those seen in humans and monkeys.”

If you’re wondering what in the world makes sheep-to-celebrity facial recognition so fascinating to the scientific community, the researchers explain that their study helps us to understand normal brain function and how it changes with disease.

As the video states, “this will help us understand complex human disease, such as Huntington’s disease.”

You will never hear the end of this from vegetarians—and maybe that’s fair enough.
