Uber Got Hit With a Lawsuit After a Man’s Wife Learned of His Affair From Its App Notifications

The man had logged into his Uber account on his wife’s phone, who later pieced together his cheating ways by looking at his travel history.

A French businessman who used Uber to visit his mistress is now suing the company because his wife received notifications of his trips and later filed for a divorce.

The man said despite logging off of her device, the application continued to send notifications. Using her detective skills, she figured out what was going on and—needless to say—they are now divorced.

“My client was the victim of a bug in an application,” said lawyer David-André Darmon. “The bug has caused him problems in his private life.” The lawsuit is reportedly worth up to $AU62 million.

Darmon told the press his client wished to remain discreet and anonymous. (For obvious reasons.)

Apparently, other users had also encountered the Uber software bug. Le Figaro newspaper tested the theory out; it logged in and out of Uber on one iPhone and then logged in on another device. The app sent screen notifications about the order to both phones.

It’s understood this particular glitch affected iPhones before a software update in December. Brownie points for Android here because they didn’t appear to be affected.

Uber hasn’t commented yet. (Too busy sweating profusely, maybe.)
