New Uber Guidelines: No Flirting, No Vomiting, No Vandalism

New Uber Guidelines: No Flirting, No Vomiting, No Vandalism

Uber has published a new set of guidelines for passengers; it has banned vandalism, “vomiting due to excessive alcohol consumption” and flirting.

In a statement released on Thursday, Uber has introduced rules for passengers. For the first time ever.

The Guardian reports passengers who disobey the new rules may find themselves permanently banned from using the ride-sharing service.

“Most riders show drivers the respect they deserve,” the statement read. “But some don’t – whether it’s leaving trash in the car, throwing up in the back seat after too much alcohol or asking a driver to break the speed limit so they can get to their appointment on time.

“This kind of poor behaviour is not OK.”

While most rules apply to passenger-driver interactions, there are others that appear to be aimed at those using UberPool—a service where separate passengers are collected and dropped off at different locations in the same car.

The new regulations state there is to be no touching or flirting with other people in the car; drivers are also banned from any form of flirting. The statement reads, “As a reminder, Uber has a no sex rule. That’s no sexual conduct between drivers and riders, no matter what.”

Uber also reminded people about the “common courtesy not to shout, swear or slam the car door”.

The company has faced a—somewhat—rocky year, including multiple cases of sexual assault.

It is hoped the new rules will help in combating some of these issues.
