Two Sydney High Schools In Lockdown Following Online Threats

Two Sydney high schools have been placed in lockdown following threats made on social media.

The lockdown comes after a police investigation into anonymous threats made on 4chan towards the University of New South Wales and the University of Tasmania just last week.

According to The Australian, counter-terrorism police have been dispatched to East Hills Boys High School in Panania and Sir Joseph Banks High School in Revesby.

The NSW Department of Education released a statement saying, “children are safe but [parents] can collect them if they want to.”

Though students are welcome to leave, under a “lockdown”, no one else may enter the school.

Nonetheless, the schools are operating as usual. A lunchtime assembly will be held to provide an update to students.

A spokeswoman for NSW Police said that officers from Bankstown LAC were on the scene.

“Police will investigate the situation and police are reminding members of the public that it is an offence to post threatening or violence-inciting messages on social media sites,” she added.

More news as it develops.
