Twitter Will No Longer Limit Direct Messages To 140 Characters

Twitter’s had a bit of a day.

Today the company announced an end to its 140-character limit in direct messages.

That means, when privately messaging other Tweeters, you’ll be able to gab and gab to your heart’s content. Ariana Grande is probably psyched that she doesn't have to upload Word documents any longer.

This particular wall will fall in July.

Twitter’s producer manager, Sachin Agarwal, insists that the move away from short messages in DMs does not herald an end to the 140-character limit on regular public Tweets.

It did herald, however, the resignation of CEO Dick Costolo.

Less than an hour after the initial announcement regarding DMs, Costolo stood down (though probably not because of the DMs).

It’s believed Wall Street had lost faith in Costolo’s abilities to move the company forward, with many critics citing “a clunky UI” and “a perception it has done too little to weed out trolls.”

The good news is that someone has already put his hand up to take over for Costolo, and that someone is Snoop Dogg.

Vote 1: Snoop.
