Too Soon? Logan Paul is Back on YouTube

Controversial YouTube star Logan Paul has returned with his first vlog in three weeks, following a hiatus after he posted a video in which he joked about—and in front of—a suicide victim.

His last video drew widespread outrage, even among his most devoted fans.

YouTube similarly copped a lot of criticism for not properly reviewing the content when (or before) it was published, and taking its sweet time in penalising Paul for the wildly-misjudged clip.

Paul apologised and YouTube eventually punished Paul (by cancelling several ‘Originals’ he was set to produce and removing him from their ‘Preferred’ ad platform). And now he’s back, with a very. serious. clip.

Entitled “Suicide: Be Here Tomorrow”, the seven-minute video features numerous stats about suicide and an interview with suicide survivor and motivational speaker Kevin Hines.  

It also includes a contrite Paul saying, “I know I’ve made mistakes; I know I’ve let people down.”

“But what happens when you’re given an opportunity to help make a difference in the world?”

There’s no denying the video is still largely about the ego-centric Paul’s apology tour/rebranding (we even get some footage of him washing his face in slow motion, to reflect his new deepness).

Whether or not Paul is genuine, or even deserves forgiveness, will need to be decided upon by individual viewers.

However, this video—which has already been seen by close to four million people at the time of this writing (and will remain available to his remaining 16 million subscribers)—nonetheless includes a chat with the Director of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, steps to help prevent suicide, and a pledge by Paul to donate $US1 million to suicide prevention organisations. And that’s not nothing.
