Logan Paul May Face "Further Consequences" For His Controversial Forest Video

Trigger Warning: This article discusses suicide.

On New Year's Eve of last year, famous YouTuber Logan Paul uploaded a video of himself walking through Japan's Aokigahara Forest, south-west of Tokyo.

The video sparked huge controversy as Paul came across a dead body, behaved inappropriately and then decided to upload it to his millions of subscribers, many of them children.

A few days after, he apologised on Twitter and claimed that the video was intended to raise awareness for suicide prevention.

A fellow YouTuber, Anna Akana, lashed out against Paul for trying to justify the video.

"That body was a person someone loved," Akana wrote on Twitter. "You do not walk into a suicide forest with a camera and claim mental health awareness."

He uploaded a second apology, in which he asked fans not to defend him.

But apart from removing the subsequent uploads of the initial video, YouTube stayed silent on the issue.

Today, they released a series of Tweets explaining that they are taking steps to "ensure a video like this is never circulated again".

YouTube, however, has still not outlined what these consequences for Paul might be.

Many have also criticised YouTube's comments, particularly as they wrote that they "acted accordingly" when the video was uploaded. Users were quick to highlight, however, that YouTube did review the video before Paul deleted it and decided to leave it up without adding an age warning.

Paul has decided to take time off from YouTube for a while to reflect.
